Meet Roger Westerling
Founder, The Truman Company
Roger opened The Truman Company in Roseville in 2008. He named it after the man who taught him the business, his Uncle Truman. His goal was simple: a shop where Minnesotans could bring in coins, gold, and silver and get an honest answer about what they have. That’s still how the counter runs today.
His story starts in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Every year Uncle Truman stopped by on his national tour of coin shows, arriving in a new blue Cadillac, and he always left young Roger a coin and a copy of the Red Book. When the family moved to Southern California in 1975, Roger started working for his uncle at 17 and was working coin shows by the time he graduated high school.
After studying business at Chaffey College, he worked his way from shipping clerk to Senior Vice President of Purchasing at a regional coin firm. He then worked alongside some of the most respected names in numismatics, including mint error specialist Fred Weinberg and wholesale dealers Wayne Miller and Steve Contursi.
In 1998, he came to Minneapolis to evaluate a major estate collection. He liked the Twin Cities enough to stay, and ten years later he opened The Truman Company.
